Recreation & Family Activities in Diablo, CA

Living at the foot of stunning Mt Diablo opens up a world of recreational activities and the proximity to major metropolitan centers allows Diablo residents to have the best of all worlds. A round of golf, a hike through mountains or a trip to the Oakland Zoo are just some of the many things to do for everyone in the family.

At the center of this charming village is the 1916 post office that is the heart of village life in Diablo. More than just a place to pick up the mail, it is the spot to meet and greet neighbors and learn about local events. For the past 30 years the most popular celebration in Diablo is the annual Ice Cream Social. Residents enjoy this event as an opportunity to celebrate the congeniality and traditions of their community.

The Diablo Country Club is the other central spot for recreation in town. This private club was founded in 1914 and sits on the grounds of what was once a country estate during the railroad era of the late 1800s. The families of gold mining tycoons and railroad barons came here to get away from it all during the summer months. Now the architecture of the Gilded Age is incorporated into the property. The 18-hole golf course was designed by notable golf course architects, Jack Neville and William Watson. The Diablo Country Club also maintains a swim and fitness center, tennis courts and bocce courts. The Diablo Country Club is also home to the Diablo Sharks Swim Team. For over 40 years, the Diablo Sharks have been developing athletes in their program.

Activities in Diablo

In Diablo’s “backyard,” Mount Diablo State Park offers miles of hiking trails, bicycling and camping. The state park is well known for the best hikes with a view in the Bay Area. It has an extensive trail system that takes hikers to the summit, the Mt Diablo observatory, and the rock formations called Rock City. This is a very popular park for hiking and camping. On a clear day, it is an easy drive to the top with a picnic lunch to enjoy views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east, Mount Lassen to the north and the Golden Gate Bridge and the Farallon Islands to the west.

For shopping, residents utilize the nearby towns of Danville, Walnut Creek and San Ramon. All three of these communities provide a wealth of restaurants, shopping districts, and activities.
